Climate Change
We produce so much CO2, for example factories, cars and the burning of fossil fuels, that our fragile planet cannot cope. CO2 and other greenhouse gases trap the heat (like a greenhouse) in the atmosphere so that the atmosphere warms up as the suns heat rays cannot pass out the atmosphere because the greenhouse gasses are trapping it. It therefore inflicts a whole new problem, as the greenland ice sheet is melting, rising sea levels pose an extremely strong threat on all of us including animals as it will cause a severe series of massive floods in lowland countries if we keep producing such high levels of greenhouse gasses. But that is not it, when you heat water it expands very slightly, however if we warm up our atmosphere and warm up the sea then that will happen on a huge scale, so this is a "double whammy." The sun has also been at its dimmest (coldest) for over a hundred years, it will most likely heat up soon. It is predicted in less than 20 years most lowland countries like the Netherlands will be completely flooded due to climate change. Its not the only thing, 200 000 acres of rainforest are being chopped down every day. Trees take in carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the main greenhouse gases and produce oxygen so they are essential to life on earth, but because so many trees are being chopped down scientists believe that if we continue we will face even harsher effects of climate change. There is discussion whether we can beat climate change, but if we can make our emissions start to reduce by 2015 and everyone contributes we can beat climate change otherwise we will face a runaway climate change. Global Warming is now so critical, that it has been rated even more important than terrorism. Rapid glacier melt causes concern
In today's society increasing concern for climate change and global warming has risen greatly for good reason. Glacier melt has increased causing rising sea levels and catastrophic effects on earth. In South East Greenland over the last 20 years temperature has risen by 5.4 degrees, as the greenland ice sheet is the same size as Mexico if it melted it would rise sea levels immensely.
But in Antarctica alone it covers 7 million cubic miles of ice, if this were to melt the sea level would rise by 230 feet. We need to act to save our planet, and now.

Renewable Energy
The burning of fossil fuels to make energy has contributed greatly to Climate Change. Energy suppliers such as e-on have been investing in renewable energy sources, for example they have the biggest off shore wind turbine farms in the UK. However wind turbines are not the only source of renewable energy. Solar, Geothermal and tidal power are only a few of the many renewable energy sources. But yet still only % of all energy comes from renewable sources. We have all the technology to make all our energy renewable but if we continue to not show interest in it then all energy companies won't even bother to go green if no one actually is wiling to look into it. To do your bit to combat climate change sign up to a greener energy package call your supplier and ask for a green tariff.
