There are 21 different species of albatross, 19 of which are classified as threatened. A huge 100,000 albatrosses die needlessly every year due to the devastating effect of long line fishing. When the birds go to collect food for their chicks they fly out into open seas. They then get caught on the fishing hooks and drown. As the mother is now dead the chick does not have long until it starves to death. These deaths are needless and can be stopped, but they need our help or this magnificent species of bird will almost perish completely.
